RE: Notification of Substantial Shareholding

Pursuant to the obligation placed on us by paragraph 9.11 of the Listing Rules, we advise that on 20th December 2002, the Company received notification that FMR Corp. of 82 Devonshire Street, Boston and its direct and indirect subsidiaries has a notifiable interest in 2,868,449 Ordinary Shares in Irish Continental Group plc., representing 11.4% of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.
